What makes Big Difference Health different?

Big Difference Health is a team of highly experienced and effective professionals with extensive experience working in the NHS. Oxford-based, we work throughout the UK and internationally. We are committed to helping the NHS improve the way it works and achieve its objectives. We do this through:

  • Working with groups of senior managers to help them formulate their strategic plans
  • Facilitating meetings with managers at all levels to help them implement action plans
  • Providing targeted training and coaching as appropriate.

We share a particular philosophy of plain speaking. Our approach is down-to-earth and results-oriented.

If you’re like us, you will probably hate the jargon and management-speak that tends to pervade many organisations. You probably find that a lot of external management consultants share a tendency to be rather pompous – as if they would like you to believe that they somehow know more than you and your colleagues.

Organisations come to us because they want to support their people and help them move forward. They find that our down-to-earth, common-sense approach brings results. People who have worked with us tend to talk to others and we now find that most of our customers come through recommendation.

Big Difference Health is part of Big Difference Consulting Ltd. which was started by Mark Arnold in 1991. The inspiration behind our organisations was Mark's experience of leading a large aid agency in Pakistan’s North West Frontier. Working with Afghan refugees and war-ravaged people in Afghanistan, Mark’s mission was to develop Afghan leaders to take control of a wide range of medical, vocational training, agricultural and small business programmes.

Mark found that by encouraging people to take responsibility and providing the support they needed, something amazing happened – the leadership team became a high performance engine. People used their initiative and grew in confidence and creativity. Projects blossomed and the results produced were celebrated by all the stakeholders.

On his return to the UK, Mark found that he was able to apply the principles proved so successfully in Pakistan and Afghanistan to developing people in a wide range of public and private sector organisations. Over the next few years, he carefully built a team of like-minded people to work with him under the Big Difference banner.
